General aspect: this
muscular dog, vigorous and powerful of size has a particularly
intelligent expression.
Size: 70 cm (27.5 inches) and more for the male and 65cm (25.5 inches) and more for the female.
Head: very powerful, prominent eyebrows straight chamfer furrowed with a very marked longitudinal wrinkle, short and straight muzzle, sometimes lightly convex. Upper lips very developed and floppy. Strong scissors-like teeth very strong, wide and black snout, well opened nostrils. Folds of flesh under the eyes.
Eyes: quite large, dark brown, lower eyelid slightly hanging, good and intelligent impression.
Ears: attached quite high, overage size, well muscled at the base, worn hanging lightly rounded triangular lobes.
Neck: very powerful, attached high up. Developed fanons.
Body: oblique shoulders, wide, very muscular, powerful. Well rounded chest, moderately low. Very wide, straight back, rump gently sloped. Slightly elevated stomach.
Tail: sharp, wide, strong, long very heavy, ending in a firm point. Standing more or less high when awake, falling straight at rest.
Coat: hair smooth or slightly wavy for the long hair variety, more compact and down for the short hair variety. Hair quite long on the tail, wavier on the back, and in the area between the loin and the rumps. The color of the coat is red and white, never one color, white on the chest, feet, the tip of the tail, nose band, collar or spot on the nape.
